Is the GC the problem or me lol

It must just be good business guys cause there’s a couple HVAC guys in town and then don’t charge that the only reason I thought about doing it is because then I can do the entire set up

So, uh, how do I get in on this racket now?

The trick is to get certified by one of the major brands, like Trane. I think the big guys only offer a full warranty if it's installed by one of their certified dealers (which means selling at list price)

On that one at the camp job, where the guy wanted $25,000 and my son came in at $15,000, my son was doing it on the side. His mom said her bid would have been $24,000-26,000 (And she didn't know about the other price).

I got a bid when I was living in a small house, renting. The lace need it only 1.5 ton but it had a 2.5 ton unit and it was cooling way before it removed humidity, So everything was molding. The landlord wouldn't replace it because it still "worked"

I got curious and got a bid, from just simple swap outs. Going from gas to electric. I would run the circuit and connect that, reuse line set and reuse thermostat with the cable. The quote I got was $9,100

I found the system I wanted on eBay, brand new but from a non-certified dealer, and it was $1,400

That means $7,700 over the cost of materials, for a 6-hour job. Sorry, but nobody's making $1,300 an hour at my house. I bought the units and had my son install them before he was certified

All right since you have an in with your son, what’s the best brand everyone around here so it sells Mitsubishi and I think Fuji they do the side mount mini splits which I think they’re freaking ugly I like the ceiling systems but they always quote extremely expensive.

Been seriously thinking of dealing with them I wasn’t because I had an HVAC guy that was giving me work but now he switched to doing a Customer electrician so now I have no obligation to not compete with him

My state won't allow me to install any HVAC that requires refrigerant charging due to licensing. But I could install pre-charged systems. I've been considering it.

If it’s so lucrative, why don’t you do it not point fingers just wonder what’s keeping you
I do some installs, then have my son vacuum the lines and put the pressure gauges on.

But mine are non-certified because I don't wanna deal with warranty stuff, repairs, etc. I install and I'm out.

I've pitched to my son that we could sell them, and he could pay me a lucrative fee to install, then he could take it from there. He's so not interested in that 😅

Yes, the mini splits are pre-charged.
But if you're looking to generate good income, getting certified is a relatively short process

The state licensing requirements go beyond just refrigerant certification. I forget the exact requirements but there is some number of years working for a licensed HVAC contractor before I can sit for the test.

What if you know nothing about HVAC other than that it's a money printer? Where do you start then?
I known nothing called Mitsubishi-got number to reb- filled application- taking epa test- doing hands on training- then ranking in the dough.

I don’t even have my lighting store done yet I should probably focus on one thing at a time lol

Is HVAC general?
On average, my clients only let me reject two jerks peddling ductless systems, with foreign-language nameplates, before getting rid of me and installing it anyway.

Nobody else screens GC laborers installing HVAC with unlisted equipment, because nobody cares.

Most ductless nameplates come from Mexico.
