I have another post going regarding ungrounded Romex and trying to work out how to extend a circuit - but I notice something interesting when I picked up a Carlon box the other day. In it, imprinted inside the box, was a note that the box was only legal when installed in a wall - it was clearly marked inside - "For in wall installtion onlyl".

I have an Allied Molded Product 4" Square, and noted inside is "2 Hour Fire Wall Rating" - does this indicate it can be installed exposed, and has a 2 hours fire rated when it's close up with a "device"? The Alllied does appear to be some type of fiberglass composite.

THanks,

Brett

Plastic "bell" boxes have been in use for a long time. I believe they are called plastic weathertight. I see them frequently. They come with 1/2 or 3/4 ports and a variety of configurations, one port on a short side, 2 ports on a short side, one port on each short end, 2 ports on each short end, and probably a few other configurations. They have molded tabs that stick out past the backbase to attach them with some type of screws or tapcons.
