Is there a preferred conductor to terminate first when doing a typical single family residential service?

Equipment ground

Totally agree with you guys. Make the ground first, then the neutrals and then the hots.

Reverse order for disconnecting.

Especially in the service panel. You always want the neutral connected before the ungrounded conductors and disconnected after the the ungrounded conductors. A real world example would be if your disconnecting all the branch circuits in a panel waiting for the poco to come disconnect for a service change. It’s real easy to leave a light or the heat on while your disconnecting things and then you have the risk of opening the neutral of a mwbc or a sub panel and that could be real bad.

If it’s not energized I’d say it’s personal preference what order you put them in. The gec is small and goes behind other wires so it’s typically easier to put it in first but a lot of times I do the ground rods last so I do the gec last. How do you roll?
