Is this a securing/supporting violation? Stapling in garage.

Outside and inside picture view of emerging detached garage sub panel feed.
Looking for information/reference to whether or not this installation to a detached garage meets the code. I know we can't staple directly under floor boards nor to the underside of roofs unless it meets the min. distance requirements. However is there a rule against securing cable or conduit vertically along a garage building's plywood wall?

I see no problem with it, and have done it. Plywood is structural.
Be careful with that term, that would open a kettle, if the plywood is structural then the metal sheeting of a pole building can be structural and then it would require bonding.

The only safety issue could be raised regarding attaching to the plywood sheathing is the lack of the minimum 1.25 inch clearance. Someone could reasonably drive in blind from outside and put a screw right into the MC cable. (Seen it done.)

I guess it depends. It is far enough from the nailing surface of the framing, but well within the 1.25" of the exterior siding. There is no allowance if the siding is already installed.

When I see things like this I just don't understand why. That hole could just as easily been drilled close to the stud. And, that outside piece will take a beating from the weed wacker over time.

I hope not. That 90 degree fitting down low has to be accessible doesn't it?
So if they were finished, and if a removable access panel was installed over the 90 degree fitting, would that suffice?

Are the 90 degree fittings even allowed in the middle of a run, rather that at one end?

Cheers, Wayne

The plywood sheathing is structural because it keeps the walls from racking and generally stiffens up the building by a lot. The metal siding does not do this so it is not structural.

All of those raceways and the GEC need to be protected from physical damage. I agree that screwing the clamp to the plywood is sufficient for securing/supporting. But it still may be subject to damage -- that's an AHJ call. I wouldn't trust a siding monkey, even with the inside wall exposed, to not penetrate it with nails. It would be easy to put some 2x2's or 2x3's flat in that joist space and secure things to those.

What to do about outside is a little tougher. Lawnmower wheels can do a number on both of those as can weed whackers.
