Is this the beginning of the end?

Man, I hope not. I've always pictured this forum as a group of highly skilled professionals sitting around the coffee table discussing things that come up in the electrial field. I've pictured in my head that each person's avatar relates very closely to who they are. For example, iwire really looks and sounds like "Dirty Harry", Bob. . .I mean Brad really looks like Bob-the-builder. He posts to the forum each morning before he steps out of his trailer across from Wendy's. Ryan is a penguin who never gets tired of pushing others into the drink. I know this is NOT the case, just the illusion in my mind. (aka don't tell me what you are wearing or not wearing!) :D

I hope this forum sticks around for a long time. If things have to change to qualify individuals and their posts, membership dues, etc., so be it.

In case I don't get the opportunity to post this later, thank you one and all for your help and expertise--especially those who've had to correct me!

-Dale

This is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.
This is from a speech given by Sir Winston Churchill at the Lord Mayor's Luncheon, Mansion House, London, November 10, 1942.

But the end to which this lawsuit may lead us is not going to be the end that the plaintiff's lawyers intend. I believe in free speech, and I like to hope that any jury chosen to hear this case would also believe in free speech. I believe the use of the Internet as a vehicle for speaking out freely will become stronger, and more well protected, as a result of such frivolous challenges.

Anybody have an avatar or other image of a US flag I could wave at this point in my speech?

Here you go Charlie,

Perhaps we need a disclaimer to click on every time we log on.We often are split on issues here so no one should ever use this for more than an opinion or guidance to a code.I for one would miss this forum.

I thought Ryan was the one getting pushed into the water. I remember he had a big long discussion on one thread about that, but I can't remember which he said he was, so I just figure he's the one going into the drink. I guess he likes it cold.

I remember that too. He said that sometimes he's the pusher, sometimes he's the pushee--just depends on what day it is.

But why let the facts get involved?

Can-he-fix-it?! Yes-he-CAN! :)

i would think every web site should have a disclaimer especially one such as this that talks about doing electrical work. i once had an arguement with a moderator on a do it yourself forum because he was giving advice to idiot home owners that was less than the code minimum because he said he wanted to keep it simple and easy for them to do the work. i told him 2 years ago watch out for a law suit. i think those diy forums should be shut down unless they talking about something safe like gardening. there should be a disclaimer as well as something about this site is for people in the electrical field only and no diy advice is given.

Unfortunately people can & will sue over anything, no matter how many disclaimers & signed affadavits there are. Given enough money & planetary alignment, they will win. Am I going to worry about it? Not one bit! The only agency to get blood out of a turnip is the IRS.

If anything, after reading the link provided by Bryan, I think that the possibility of forums coming to an end is highly unlikely... but with my experience through the legal system, I have learned it is not who is right that wins, but who really has the best attorney.

It's amazing how many discrimination-claimers don't understand why reverse discrimination is as bad.

In regards to the lawsuit: A DA turned defense attorney told me there is at least one LIE in every case.

I was expecting to read something like no "racial epiphet" need apply, when they mentioned discrimination.

Also we have only read one side of the issue.

Maybe the other side has a valid concern (I know, I am so naive)

The forum coming to an end...What are you doing to me?...OK...stay calm...

In all seriousness I enjoy this forum, Thank you Mike Holt. He provides many free reference materials that help make us be more knowledgeable and in turn create a safer installations. I like to question things, look it up in the code book and or post a discussion regarding it. The Internet can be a great thing. I have all of these geniuses at my fingertips.
This was only my opinion. Thank you to everyone and be safe.

Oh boy the lawyers!
This is why you should always charge the lawyers 50% more than anyone else for the same work!

But on the other hand I'm looking for a lawyer to take a class action lawsuit for me, against Netflix. My case being, I have gained 15 pounds in the last year since joining Netflix. With their mailing the DVD's to me, I no longer get any excercise going to Blockbuster & rushing like a maniac to return them before I get a late fee.
It should be a good case that Netflix will settle out of court.
Ya thinkl?

Gardening can be dangerous too! A lot of people get their foot caught in the tines of the tiller! :)
