Another welder question. Our office has a fairly long history of putting 480:480 transformers immediately ahead of welder panels to isolate the transients. Have never heard reports of any issues with this from our clients. But is it doing anything? Anyone care to speak to the technical/practical side of this? Is there a more cost effective solution that achieves better results? Is this solution actually solving anything? Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks!

You increased residual power losses. You added a small amount of equivalent series inductance.

You would accomplish much the same result with series inductance equivalent to the transformer's equivalent series inductance, and eliminate the residual power loss.
