Im wiring a jacuzzi tub with motor and heater, both are plug and cord connected. I've run two 20 amp dedicated circuits and landed a gfci
at the end of each branch circuit. Did I screw up because the gfci is not motor rated? what is the code artical for this?? Any help would be appriciated.

Hydromassage bathtubs are designed for cord and plug connection so the GFCI receptacle is fine.

680.71 Requires GFCI protection for all 125 volt single phase receptacles not exceeding 30 amps and located within 5 feet from the inside walls of the tub.

Do not forget to bond the hot tub.

The tub will be bonded by the equipment grounding conductor that is run with the branch circuit conductors.

Are you refering to the requirment in 680.74? Which it talking about bonding together, all metal piping systems, and all grounded metal parts in contact with the circulating water.

If you live in Connecticut that is going to be a problem....
 
Got me Celtic? The inspector didn't give a code article, so I guess I'm supposed to guess at what he wants?? One inspector tells me to install a deadfront GFCI but that does not make sence to me either. I've been all over 680 and the motor section 430 and can't find ANYTHING that says a GFCI needs to be motor rated??? Thanks for the input.

Celtic, Its not the GFCI as much as the device itself, It sounds like the inspector may want a deadfront GFCI and then to a 20 amp receptacle instead of plugging directly into the GFCI receptacle. I don,t know and at this piont I dont want to guess. I always like the saying "If you cant recite it you can't site it".
 
Dead front outside the tub inclosure someware in the bathroom for easy access and receptical under the tub is the way to go. Some access doors a bitch to get into. Or GFI breaker in the panel. Never heard of a Motor Rated GFI.
 
Maybe the inspector was talking about a 20 amp gfi receptacle in place of a 15 since its a dedicated circuit? The way the rules change for pools/tubs I wouldn't be surprised..
