Looking for a free app that I can track labor hours and material costs. This would be for internal tracking. My quotes are already in an invoice form and sent to customer. This app would just be for me to see how much overhead was spent on job and determine my profit

Do you have accounting software that could track what you mentioned above? Quickbooks. They probably have a mobile option.

Paper and pencil is still better for us older guys. I have an IPad and a Samsung tablet both with apps capable of recording what I need, if I take the time. A simple spreadsheet, notes etc but it will still be double entry unless you find something that integrates with what you have. Free still comes with costs.

Not free but you may already have.
MS Office Excel.
You would have to build it unless you find a file online what works.
Myself I like to set up my own.

Job tracking

For material we use Conest JobTrac; a PO gets created in the software for most all material purchases and forwarded to the supplier. You'll need to go back and correct the invoice cost when the tickets come in.

For labor, we use ExakTime mobile app. You just have to drill it into everyone to clock in/out correctly. We use different cost codes within the program for travel, site work, rough-in, and trim-out. The hours get manually transferred back to JobTrac for a total job cost.

Edit..... sorry just realized you said a free app. I'll leave my comment for anyone else looking for job cost software.

Free time tracking apps for smart phones - too many to count. Which one is best - I have no clue

Some of those may be able to track materials or other expenses. Most of them you likely send a report to whoever does the accounting and manually enter into your accounting software. If lucky may be able to export to a database or spreadsheet and be able to import that information into your accounting software. But if you are handling significant amounts of date you are likely better off getting paid apps or accessory apps that play well with your accounting software.
