Junction box or Wireway

how do you know whether to use a junction box or a wireway for a certain design?

For example I attached the one I'm working on and I went with a wireway but maybe a junction box would have been better?

Junction boxes and wireways are covered under two different code Articles and have different requirements. Why are you questioning the use of a wireway?

I wasn't sure if it's excessive for just 2 taps and I was wondering if just a junction box would suffice.

The wireway is going to take up less space. But the JB is going to be easier to work in. You get to pick your poison.
