Small issue in the scheme of things but it irritates me no end. Junk never ends. Fortunately it didn’t short out & didn’t have a live red buried in the armor. Seen that a few times too.

It is, a MC connector wouldn't let the sheath come all the way through and the sheath here is all the way through the connector.

It's made for 3/8" flex

12/2 MC is 5/16" and doesn't sit against the stops

The OP referred to it as junk. I thought he meant there was something wrong with the connector not that the wrong connector was used.

It appears to me that the problem is with the installation. If the connector will grip the sheath firmly, it could have been tightened with the cable at the proper depth.

Yes, installer was part of the issue.
