A local dealer is selling open trim Juno recessed lights for above shower stalls. I am having trouble finding info on this set up. Any info?

If the light is over 8' above the shower threshold it is not a damp location. Most of the houses I have been working on the tub and shower are separate but next to each other, the tub needs a "shower trim" and the shower doesn't. Go figure.

Why would the tub need a "shower trim". Most all can trims are damp location rated.

the open shower trims ive installed are rated for use with a outdoor lamp (par 38 or par 20 depending on size) and have a rubber gasket that goes around the lamp to seal the socket area from water

I know this is the trim you are asking about because I know which local dealer you are referring to. We may or may not be from the same area

I had installed a properly rated fixture / trim/ lamp above a shower and because it was an open trim and new to the inspector ,it could not possibly be compliant .. When I tried to engage him in a conversation about it,..well ,.. he said in front of the customer that I was endangering her and her children ,..That really tweaked me in a bad way ...
I think the guy who asked for information in the OP is an inspector ,...I am glad to see he is willing to learn,,,though I hope he posts again so I can confirm that belief

That was completely uncalled for. I would be mad too

Yup ,..sad thing is I grew up with his son ,...I lost a heap of respect for him after that ,..not only was I upset by the comment he made ,..I was equally upset with his inability to converse...

I went back with code book in hand and showed the Home owner the definitions and explained that I did not risk their well-being. Pointed out to her the flood lamps exposed to direct rain ,sleet , snow,, asked her if in all the years they have been using them day in day out ,.if they ever shattered...

She did not care for the attitude of the inspector and she was impressed with the way I handled myself ...
