I once apparently had a bad coil of 10-3 with ground NM.
I ran most the way across lived in house to a dryer through open ceiling in basement. turned breaker on and it trips immediately. Check out connections, find nothing wrong, disconnect conductors breaker holds fine. IIRC was before I had a megger, but even then still had a meg ohm reading even with regular DMM between conductors, and on the rest of the new coil as well.
I was just happy I hadn't installed it where it would get totally concealed then find out it had a problem later on, and supply house did exchange what I had for a different one.
