Of course! The difference is obvious.

I rarely accept a drink because I always have my own with me, but my guys are welcome to accept. We'll also accept the occasional pizza, but normally only if it's a multi-day job where we've become comfy with each other.

Added: Of course, we'll use a bathroom if necessary; the alternatives are usually worse. I do try to leave home emptied as possible.

I will accept a drink if offerd, but I usually ask for water. I dont generally accept any food because Im just funny about eating food prepared by people I dont know:D I do alot of work in restaurants, and I dont eat in the same place I am working that day because I dont want the manager to feel obligated to offer me a free lunch or discount.

Another question,.....

Another question,.....

When you all have customers, comm. or res., do you make note of all of the ones who go the extra mile for you so you know you're working for the nice guy if you get called to return? I do, I do religiously. I am the shoes off at the door in res. guy, it's amazing how the small things can make a difference!

I am happy to be of in any assistance. Just wondering, do any of you other guys accept offers of the such from customers?

I tend to stray away from it, no hard feelings, I thank them immensely, but I tend not to accept. How about the rest of you?

You might be missing some of the best times on your career....stay with me, I have a story to tell.

Last week, I went on a service call to do a few odds and ends...Hang a ceiling fan, wire for a pop up range vent, and relocate a range cable.

I start uptsiars with the ceiling fan, fancy ceiling medallion, 3' in diameter already installed, and box off center. I say, "your box is not fan rated and has to be changed. Too bad the medallion is already installed."
He says, "I can get that out for you."

Awesome. Wood bracing above and behind the box, so I know if he gets it out, Ill be set. I go to the kitchen.

"You want some music?" He says.
"OK, Rock on."

Find a circuit labled "range hood," feeding only a light above the range, which he wants me to replace. I'll use this circuit to feed the pop up vent, and will intercept it in the cabinet above the range. He rotozips the box hole for me.

Later, he goes into the crawl space and pulls the range cable out of the original location and feeds it to the new, a few feet only, but saves me a trip into the dungeon.

When I'm finished in the kitchen I go back upstairs to install the box and the fan. I need to shim the box with a piece of wood to bring it flush with the ceiling, and he heads to his shop to make one for me. Way cool.

5.5 hours of work. One of the best helpers I've ever had. Bill paid on completion. Good music to work by.

No beverage.

A good day at work!

I want to work for Bob,....beer when the job is done?

After they where down from my roof I bought them a 30 pack each of the two days.

In turn they made sure they left enough material for me to redo the roof on my garage.

On the excepting end. Home made food ..... never accept it.

If you think you might insult them by turning it down think about how they will feel if you take it and after the first bite you realize it is horrible and you can't finish it. :D

I tell them that I already ate, or Im on a strict diet for health reasons... that usually gets me off the hook and its pretty believable by looking at me:D

Sometimes I am amazed what you can get for beer, a hat or a t-shirt that you can't get for money.

Wow, this thread has been interesting. If I would of made them lunch it would of probably been delivered, or frozen, real nice guy I am:grin: No,... I see the point on the homemade part. My point was I don't accept anything from the customer. I thank them five times for the offer, but I very politely decline. I am there at their facility or residence on MY time. I am writing the bill, and the payment is all I ask for. I have had the sweet old ladies tell me I MUST try their pie, but as a rule, I thank the customer for the offer and decline. Even if I did a job for Bill, I would NEVER accept a beer driving a company vehicle, no way, no how. I may come back for a cold one if I knew you, but NEVER on company time, or driving their vehicle.

Why did I start this thread??? Okay,.... when I offered the drinks and expected hesistance, they snatched the drinks up before I got my next breath out. I found it a little odd, but they did an exceptional job.

I deal with customers in a different manner than that. They were great, but I found that slightly odd. I still would of gotten them lunch after the quality of job they did.

Thanks guys for the opinions, keep 'em coming:wink:

I always take my own drinks/lunch to the job, regardless if i'm going to be there for a couple hours, a day, or longer. I also keep a box of disposable boot covers in the event i am in and out of a customer's house......I don't take anything that isn't offered to me other than water or a bathroom trip...

Aww come on guys, they are supposed to be dipped in coffee. Thats why they are long and thin. Pastries and food is one of the few things Europe has over on the US. The aniset biscotti are fantastico....I used to make a hazelnut/chocolate one years ago and I would dare anyone to tell me they didnt like them.
