I just don't understand why my thread "Orientation of baseplugs" is locked up. I was wanting to reply to Bob's (iwire) post. I appreciated your reply, although I'm sorry I opened such "a can of worms". I had heard that the reason for turning the ground up was in the unlikely event that something metal got dropped behind the plug that it wouldn't cause a short. Thanks for your reply.
 
There are many opinions and unfounded reasons for all orientations but none are required by the NEC.

You can do a search for older threads.
