K clamps? Same as "Mini"?

Job calls for k clamps to support PVC conduit, left "kind of loose" to allow for expansion/contraction of PVC due to ambient temperature changes.

Also will be using PVC slip fittings.

Not sure if k clamps is a slang name, I'm picturing something like a Minnie clamp?

Thanks for any help...

Ask for clarification of what a "k clamp" is.

"Kind of loose" is ambiguous. Is that what it says in the specs? I guess anything other than "fully tight" would comply.

Hmm?

Hmm?

When I talked to the inspector about this job (there's going to be PVC conduit running high up on exterior of brick building for a feeder) he said it needed to allow for expansion and said to use k clamps "not tightened up all the way"...

I was assuming he was talking about a "Minnie"?
I was picturing mounting pieces of strut at intervals, then a Minnie attached to the strut with a strut nut and a bolt, then snug the Minnie down but still allow for expansion movement...

Kindorf

Kindorf

If I used a strut strap (kindorf) on strut that's mounted vertically (for a horizontal run of conduit) I wouldn't be able to keep it loose enough for the expansion without the strap and conduit slipping out of the strut?

I'll have to talk with supply house on Monday about it.
Hopefully it's nothing in particular .
Maybe if it is just a strut strap I can just attach a bolt with fender washers below where the strap is going to go, and that will keep the strap from sliding down.

Not that loose!

It is actually done quite a lot, just a little loose or they have strut clamps for PVC.

P1563 thru P1573 - Parallel Pipe Clamp, Unistrut?
Any expansion fittings? Edit you said yes.

I've used one size larger PVC as a sleeve
with the right Unistrut strap in order to allow for movement

We've done that in the past as well. There are proper straps out there you can order, if you can wait. But, if you just need a handful, masterinbama's homemade method works well too.

I like the sleeve method masterinbama suggested!
I'll keep that in my back pocket for now!

Expansion sleeves

Expansion sleeves

On a side note, rather than start a new thread since it is related to the same install, inspector told me to use expansion sleeves every 5-10 ft.

I have a horizontal run of about 30' (on a flat roof, mounted about 18" above surface of roof), then it goes vertical for 10' to a pull box, and then horizontal again for about 30-40' before entering into building.

I know it expands, but not sure where he came up with that...
In 352 it talks about expansion. I was assuming I would just have to have 3, 1 for each horizontal run and 1 for the vertical.

Any thoughts about this ?

Table 352.44

Table 352.44

Yeah, looking at table 352.44, worst case scenario of ~120* change summer to winter shows about 5" per 100'.
I would think an expansion sleeve for each of the sections (3) would work?
