K = thousands
A = amps
I = interrupting
C = capacity

The proper use of the term is to describe the value of short circuit amps that the device is capable of interrupting. Sometimes it is improperly used as the amount of short circuit current that is available.

kaic

kaic

Jim, being a true southern boy, I'm pretty adapt at improper sayings, and I have referred to the available fault currrent in "kaic" terms, y'all. What is the proper terminology ?

Up heah, we often say SCA (short circuit amps or short circuit current available), although we are not consistent.

Max fault current the breaker or fuse can interrupt without exploding.This is expressed in thousands of amperes.
