Folks: Grounded, grounding, arec flash etc..all important issues...but lets take a minute tonight to think about the contractors, electricians, inspectors and their families in Katrina's path..our prayers would probaly be welcome..and our best to them for what i'm sure will be some trying days ahead for all in the electrical field.

Hey bro I for one appreciate all the prayers I can get. Its going be rough down here. Were going be cutting trees and mounting new powerpacks like crazy. Lets not forget our customers either though. If anyone has some downtime I say grab your chainsaw and come on down. Were going need all the help we can get. Thanks to all from Pensacola Fl. Really hard to express in words..
Watching the TV news, it just breaks my heart for those citizens.Most of us on the East Coast have seen our storms.And have been affected by the loss of the basic necessities, for the shortest periods of time.
But what I've been seeing on TV the past few days..I have never, had to live though anything of that magnitude or scale of devastation.
I heard quoted on the news..The greatest "Natural Disaster" ever within our borders..
God Speed and quick recovery, to those who were affected by Katrina.
My thoughts,will be with you every day..

I wonder how much of New Orleans will end up being just bulldozed so they can just start over.
Maybe they should bring in a few mountains of dirt and raise it up 15 or 20 feet so they are not so dependent on a few pumps to keep themselves dry.

My wife and I have been blessed with a very good year. We are donating $500 to the American Red Cross. I would ask all of us to donate something, even if it is five bucks. There are about 25,000 members of this forum. That would make a donation of $125,000 to people who need it more than we do.

Just found out that I'll be going down to Mississippi from Iowa to a plant that was flooded all out. They what me to get the factory going again. Hopefully the snakes are gone by now.

First of all: good idea.
Secondly, not the only good idea. I have made a donation as well, but I chose to give to a different organization. I'll not name it, because there are many out there, besides the Red Cross, who are trying to help.
One caution (heard about this on the news last night): Please take a little extra effort to make sure that the organization to which you donate money is a legitimate charity, and not a scam. This is especially a concern if they contact you, asking for money. Make sure they are on the level. Tell them you will check them out, and get back to them. Look them up on the Internet. Make sure they really exist, and that most of the money they receive winds up in the hands of the needy. In Washington State, there is a law that every organization that wishes to solicit contributions must be included as a link from the state's web site. So if they are not on the list, they are not on the level.

Charlie B you have made a good point. There is an effort to raise money on the TV as I type that the wife has called.
There have also been several telephone calls over the past several hours looking for donations and asking for credit card numbers.

i am wondering how many of this form's members are in dier need of assistance today? and how could they communicate with their computer six feet under water? after hurricane andrew, myself and my neighbor each took in families with children that were left homeless by the storm. perhaps there is a way we can post information of needs of our form brothers to where those of us that have additional facilities could place these people long enough until their normal life could be re-established?

It makes you proud to know that there are so many people in this country ( and this forum)who really want to help those in need. Im so tired of the media reporting about racism and negativity when I really know that many caring people out here are trying to make a difference no matter what race or color those in need are. I salute those who making a differnce.
