(aerial cable) messenger cable was attached to the service drop ( 1 inch emt ) with a bonding connector attaching one another. this is illegal, right? I mean if the service drop was hit by lightning or somehow became energized wouldn't that make the (emt)service drop 1 inch pipe become energized, which went all the way back to the panel of a house. the messenger cable was looped through the hole where the bonding conductor would usually go and just wrapped around itself on both ends of the service drop

but isn't the ground rod installed to "limit damage" during a lightning strike? and it's connected at the bottom of the service by a properly sized conductor! i really don't understand how this is connected from your discription??? but i have seen many times where the overhead phone service was connected to the service mast for support!!!

As Charlie points out the GES is present for this very issue.

thanks for the illustration it really helps me out a lot - just one more thing if there is no grounding electrode can the results be severe
