Oh I know Mark, he has been over the house a few times.

Re: kitchen receptacles

I tried to tell you your getting in with a bad crowd Charlie. :D

As for this receptacle of it's own business, there's no such reequirement. The wall counter space I just threw in for fun.

once you have broken the line of the wall with a doorway (or, as I believe, a kitchen counter), the next time you encounter a wall (in the same room, in the next room, or outdoors), you have to decide (separately) whether that next wall needs one or more receptacles of its own.
That's right. That's when it's time to put another receptacle on the opposite side of the wall. :D

Of course I'm not advocating this for real, just taking the code as far as it'll go in the opposite direction.

Re: kitchen receptacles

I know that you know. But you didn't think I was going to make it easy for you, did ya? :D

Re: kitchen receptacles

The answer is in fact 100%. you can use your counter recptacle. It's just that that isn't all there is to it. :D :p

Re: kitchen receptacles

Forget the drinks boys the Answer is yes , 100% yes.
As long as the receptacle is less than 5.5 feet from the floor and not located within a cabinet or cupboard and the wall space in question is in one of the rooms described in 210.52 b . You should be all set. As long as the lower cabinet is not considered to break the wall space that is . clear as mud .

Did I read 210.52 correctly ? We are allowed to place the required receptacles @ 5.5 feet from the floor ?!

Re: kitchen receptacles

Well I have changed my mind.
(C) Countertops. In kitchens and dining rooms of dwelling units, receptacle outlets for counter spaces shall be installed in accordance with 210.52(C)(1) through (C)(5).
Here it clearly states that receptacles that are to serve a counter top must be installed as outlined by C one through five. No mention is made about wall receotacles.

How is that for arguing both sides?

I think it is great. We find ourselves arguing opposing sides often enough, so it's great to have you on my side on this one. :D

Re: kitchen receptacles

Oh come on, :D

210.52(C) doesn't say anything about what you can't use a receptacle for.

Re: kitchen receptacles

ok then can the frig plug into the outlet on the counter top beside it ? Assuming cord reaches. That should add some water to the mud :D

Yep if you don't care about it tripping the GFCI that is still required to protect this receptacle.
