Kitchen Remodel Junction Boxes

I like that idea. I wonder if the inspector would object to this (not fastening the box). Seeems like there should be a way to fasted the box but be able to yank it loose if it were ever neede to be looked at for troubleshooting.
Heavy duty velcro?

Whats the big deal of removing a few screws to get a box down. Drill drivers are small enough now adays. Or use the flexible extensions. Remounting can be a pain though but doable.

If its open when roughing in, I just mount a 2x4 by the can and mount the box to it so it can be worked on when the can is removed.

I know pre-twisting is not needed but I KNOW the connection is good forever then. No need to tape either!!:D

Twist some scrap under a nut
Pre-twist some scrap under a nut

Open the nuts....see any difference in the "tightness"?

Working thru a 4 to 6 inch can hole is difficult.

As far as troubleshooting, you need to know where cables come from and go to.

Even if the problem is not in the jb, you sometimes need to eliminate it as a possible problem. If you have 3 dead ended outlets on a portion of a circuit and one is not working, you will want to look for that jb.

Leaving the J-box "floating" is a violation that we all know about.
Get some of those lags that have 1/4x20 studs on one end. Screw them into the joist next to the cans opening, run a 1/4-20 nut on it then put your box on and use another 1/4-20 nut to tighten the box aganist the first 1/4-20 nut. Need to work on the box - open it up remove the 1/4-20 nut and pull it down through the opening.
Just another way of doing it. I would hate to the electrician trouble shooting that place if the problem is in that box. How many of you think to open up recess lights to look for hidden j-boxes?

Splices must be in a box, and the box must be accessible. But dead-ended wires don't have to be.

Yeah, rubs me the wrong way too...

When Scott first posted that he tapes them up and leaves the end in the ceiling I thought he meant.... even though it does't meet code. I was waiting for someone to challenge him and then I forgot about it.
