Would it be a violation to install a switch to control a receptacle serving the kitchen counter?

I read 210.70(1) exception no.1, but this would not be in lieu of the lighting outlet...

Well. gee-- who knows but if I had to make a guess I would say violation. art.210.52(B)(3) says the sabc shall supply receptacle outlets. A switch is an outlet but is not permitted by this article. ???? maybe

Why would you want to do that?

To be honest, I wouldn't, BUT lets just talk code here, lets say someone wanted to install some under cabinet lights with a plug in transformer, and they wanted that receptacle switched... the reason really does not matter, but would it be a violation? I cant find one...

I wouldn't say its an outlet. Would you really consider it an outlet? OUTLET: A point on the wiring system at which current is taken to supply utilization equipment.

stick,

210.52(B)(1) ex.#1 is under the heading of "small appliances" and the ex.#1

seems to allow it. Bear in mind that I am not a resdl. electrician, but this is

not in lieu of lighting outlets. jmso.

These are my feelings as well, just something I've never seen or thought of before....

Well if you are going to use the SABC outlet to serve undercounter lighting then I would say violation of 210.52(B)(2).

A switch is not an outlet.
