In recent days I've simply used a half inch weather head that has a cable clamp.

I didnt think that soldered splices were allowed anymore but I dont remember what article it was??
The NEC still clearly supports soldered connections. Look at 110.14 (first paragraph) and 110.14(B).

Is this coming from a local requirement, outside the NEC?

Gndrod is making the same comment saying some "locals" :confused: don't allow "tinned" splices. It would help clarify what is being said if examples of enforcable language could be offered here.

Good catch Al. Even the real "Locals" don't want tinning unless they get paid for the extra time soldering and then waiting for the AHJ to buy off the solder joints before closing them up. An extra inspection fee occurs in some desperate places where the community is financially overdrawn. I have seen this happen.
