okay guys, i need for someone to explain where in the code, it actually states that when marking or labeling panel or motor control centers, etc. that you have to go from left to right and top to bottom? We are having a little confusion at the plant that I work at and we are trying to get some clarification.    newellm@splpharma.com

Re: labeling/marking

The code does not tell you how to label devices in any particular order.

What is does say is in 408.3(E) and 430.97(B). 3 phase buses shall be A-B-C front to back, top to bottom, or left to right when viewed from the front.

Re: labeling/marking

Although it may not be an NEC issue, I would be interested in knowing where or when it would be good or beneficial to deviate from the left-to-right, top-to-bottom format here in the US or anywhere that typical written language is done this way. It seems that it only leads to confusion to do it any other way.

Some countries write differently and in those cases I can understand following the same format when it comes to labeling.
