Working on plans for a solar project for the near future at a water treatment plant that is currently undergoing extensive electrical upgrades, including new services and other major changes. If I request they install some conduit or duct banks to a transformer vault, to the electrical room, etc, but just stubbed out to a point so that it can be extended in the future to where needed, what typically is the process later to find and extend it? Is it usually a given that when digging it up that the conduit ends will be damaged and need to be cut off after exposure, and then extended, or is there a more intelligent way to seal it off and protect it so that it can be more easily found, dug, and extended? Assume multiple 3 or 4 inch PVC. Thanks.

I have seen pressure treated wood placed vertically at the conduit ends as the back fill is placed, and extended to about 12" below grade
