what appliance would normally consume the most power, per month, in a single family home, with a gas dryer , oven, hot water heater, and furnace? excluding AC, hot tub, etc...

Electric strip heat. It's usually the only 60a breaker in a residential panel, followed by the range at 40 or 50a.

Actually, the cold water heater would be the probable culprit if it is electric. I have never seen much need for a hot water heater. :D
I was just going to say the same thing why heat hot water??

The question is impossible to answer without knowing the use characteristics of the people living there. A 150W outside light that is on 24/7 could draw the most power PER MONTH, as could a computer that is on 24/7. You can look at the breakers to find the big peak users, and while an electric range draws quite a bit of power how often is it used?

So you need to consider (amps) * (time used).

i had a service call where the customer wanted to know why there bill was so high, as i supected under the house they had a small hot water pipe leaking, not enough to notice hot water shortage but enough to run the meter and make a nice spa under the house.:) sucks to be a plumber!

Not the plumbers I know.

if your in the south, AC it can account for about 50 to 60 percent of the energy bill.

Given that the house has gas I would assume that all of the appliances mentioned in the OP were gas as well. That leaves the refrigerator as one of the largest power consumers in the place.

I am going for hot tub here..especially if it is uncovered because the makeup heaters are all electric..if they have kids it is probably party spot..

I agree that they will keep the meter spinning, but the OP did say:

excluding AC, hot tub, etc...

Person who likes their clothes clean and dry
+ Electric clothes dryer -
+ Running 3 hr/day

Water pump, when it runs full steam 24/7. Had a customer whose electric bill jumped for two months in a row. Did a little backwards calcualting to figure out amp draw and checked wires till I found out which one was close. Drop pipe to submersible had a hole in it big enough to make pump run

Per month? Since all the big energy users are gas, and you excluded A/C and hot tubs, I would guess none of the other appliances are all that big of a user. I would bet the fridge is the worst single culprit.

PoCoPepco says 24% of the total usage goes to "kitchen appliances." Seems high to me.

18% other appliances.
14% cooling
12% heating
10% water heating
9% lighting
7% TV
6% washers & dryers
