In reference to Laundry Room receptacles; if the single outlet for a washer is within 6ft of sink is it required to be GFCI ?

Yes. There is not exception for single receptacles, not GFCI protected, for the laundry within 6' of the sink.

Under the 2005 any dwelling location with a receptacle within 6' of a laundry sink must be GFCI protected.
I suggest putting the GFCI outlet at about 48" centered on the washer....easy access if it does trip.
