A question regarding a laundry room. Is it acceptable to have a fifteen amp circuit for a gfci receptacle next to a sink basin in a laundry room?

As long as the required 20 amp receptacle outlet is present, it does not matter if you install other receptacles. A receptacle near the sink must be GFCI, but need not be 20 amps.

Even though Art. 210.11 (C) (2) states that a 20 a. circuit shall be provided to supply the laundry receptacle outlet(s)

That is not what 210.11(C)(2) says. It says that "at least one" shall be installed, and it is to serve the load named in 210.52(F). If you are installing a receptacle to serve some other purpose, then that receptacle need not be 20 amp, nor does its branch circuit need to be 20 amp.

I was thinking about the above statement and the original post of this thread.

If we were required to only install a 20 amp circuit in a laundry area would this mean that we could only use gas dryers?

Everyone be honest with me and don?t worry about my feelings I can take it, but please answer me this;
Did I just ask a silly question?

Mike

Were you a member of the Division that stood its ground while the French ran away from the Germans, and more recently defeated Saddam's Army with the help of a few Marines?

I think they're just talking about the outlet for the washing machine. At the rate they're upsizing these things to king-sized matress capacity front loader, houses may need their own substation soon...

Regarding the dryer, I'll ask a supplemental question. Are there any issues with providing a 50A service? I once rented a place that shared the dryer outlet with a wheel around welder - it was in the garage. I just changed the plug on the dryer to match.

Really I was just trying to get my post count up. I am competing with Bob (iwire) for the most post.
It does make sense to me that if you have a big tub in the back yard all you really need is some tough knuckles and a little lye soap then we wouldn?t have to worry about the receptacles.
