Laundry room requirements

I’ve installed (1) dedicated 20A circuit in a laundry room for the washer/dryer.

I’ve also added (3) receptacles that serve a long counter space for ironing and folding clothes.

Those receptacles are served by a 20 amp circuit supplying bedroom receptacles that are on a wall that backs up to the laundry.

AHJ is telling me that power from another room cannot feed receptacles in laundry room.

I said that the dedicated circuit for the washer dryer space meets the requirements and that other receptacles don’t pertain to that part of the code.

Am I wrong?

You are correct. The inspector is wrong.

As stated above, you are correct, but since they are fed from a bedroom circuit and the bedroom is AFCI only, the receptacles in the laundry room would be required to have both GFCI and AFCI protection.

It might be a hard one to win. 210.11(c)2 states that at least one 20 amp branch circuit shall be provide to supply the laundry receptacle outlets. This circuit shall have no other outlets. Someone is probably going to argue the fact that the other circuit is not for the laundry equipment….I would consider a circuit for an iron as being used for the laundry…..I would be inclined to agree with the inspector!

This circuit shall have no other outlets." and 2120.52(F) states "at least one receptacle outlet shall be installed in areas designated for the installation of laundry equipment"; so if he has the 210.52(F) required receptacle the others are not required to be on that 20 amp circuit.

Augie, that's exactly the way that I read it as well.

I had sort of a reverse situation than the OP. I had the required 20A circuit but I had 3 receptacles on it in the same laundry room. Inspector was trying to say I could only have one receptacle. I had to politely show him that receptacle also had an "s" in the wording, making it plural.
