Reading the responses for laundry circuit needs, I see no one IRONS anymore! That's what the writers of the rule had in mind, powering the washer and the iron at the same time without blowing a fuse. It's an old rule. Washers do not need 20 amp circuits, that 1000 to 1750* watt iron sure does if it is not on a circuit by itself.
