Books are good but if your like me then a video is a lot better if you go to you tube search conduit bending there is 5 videos by this female Polly fredue something like that she has a green shirt on and a after watching that video a few times about 5 years ago I was the best conduit bender at my shop

I did it the "old school" way and took EMT scraps home and just started trying to make offsets by eye. However, I became truly proficient at bending and running conduit when I learned how to use different formulas. I also highly recommend the Benfield book.

That's kinda the way I learned--tried it by the book and wasn't getting anywhere except all twisted up:ashamed1:--Then after they took my tape away and told me to just make bends till they looked right--once I got them looking correct I got my tape back and started making them where I wanted them--I learned using rigid--wish I could have used thin wall!!!!

BTW, let me tell you a cool trick. When making a complex bend, take a piece of solid wire hold it up and bend it with each approximate 90 offset etc. in the right direction. Then when you bend your conduit use it as a template. Greatly helps to avoid bending the last box offset the wrongs way:slaphead:! Not that I would have ever done that!

That's what couplings are for. :happyyes:

Thats a great trick I use it all the time ,helps me out big time with multiple bends in one stick .

The first thing you have to know is how to measure for your offset , kick , 90' , etc

So some say. I never subscribed to that myth. Looks like hack work, at best, when exposed.

I am pretty sure that is what the smiley face was for.

Conduit bending

Conduit bending

Any advice on teaching yourself to bend conduit, I rarely need to at work mostly romex,mc, and underground work but would like to get the basics of of conduit down for the times I do need to know it.
I ordered the book -guide to conduit bending, my buddy said to get some boxes and some emt and set the boxes on some 2x4s in my garage in various locations and practice getting emt to the box. Thanks

Sorry, I didn't take it that way.

Besides, some things are better expressed in words, on a forum that relies on text to convey thoughts, ideas, and sentiments. Smiley face interpretation can only go so far on the other end. :happyyes:
Hey, I resent that....oh wait smiley face.
