I am having trouble finding a decent priced($20/$25 range) LED one piece dimmable 6" trim for recessed lighting.

I would prefer being in the 3500K range , and a lumen output of 800/900.

Would like to be able to use a known name brand product if possible.

There are so many out there, a lot of them are junk.
I have an upcoming residential job requiring approx 100 cans and would like to know that I'm installing a decent product.

Would very much like to be able to use the same trim throughout the house.

Interior
Exterior
Showers

If anyone has a reliable product they have used that fits this criteria, please share the info.

Thanks.

Buying several hundred at a time might help, that and utilizing an established supplier that has hands on product you can touch and try.

Juno 6" LED trims are at the top end of that price, but name brand and dimmable with the right (LED rated) dimmer.

Given the # of lights you have, I'd buy one of each brand you are considering, an LED dimmer, and play with them some to see what the color looks like, how far they can be dimmed, etc.

Sylvania sells dimmable 5/6" retro trims for $12.50-$14.50:

Just make sure they arent the ones with a ground wire unless you want to spend an extra 2-3 hours (minute or so per can) installing them.

They are cheap enough you could easily buy an extra 5 or so in case of premature failures/damage/paint swipes.

With that kind of kelvin temp (3500k) you're just liable to be limited. Here's what I would do, even though I haven't used them before....

Halo has a 3500k available at Home Depot for $25.00 plus tax. Right here:

http://m.homedepot.com/p/Halo-5-in-...Trim-LED-Module-90-CRI-RL560WH6935R/204333823

But instead of buying them there, I would look on ebay and see if somebody has a good quantity, like this guy:

http://m.ebay.com/itm/4-Pack-Halo-L...Retrofit-Baffle-Trim-/172172734725?nav=SEARCH

He's asking $85 for a 4-pack, has more than 10 available, and even has a "make offer" tab

I'd offer the guy $75 each for the whole quantity. He just might take it. You just might get everything you want and save $600 in the process

LED 6" trims

I'm buying Satco 850 lumen trims from my supplier for $14.07/ea.....

They are dimmable, and available in temps from 2700k-5000k

There is also an eyeball trim available, but they charge close to $40/ea for that one.

I've bought maybe 300 of them this year and one has failed.

I actually like LED but they are expensive still. They work awesome and save you money since you can use it for the longest, but then it's not cheap. How about buying them in bulk? Do you think you will get a fair discount if you go direct with the supplier?

Do you mean the manufacturer ?

I'd just rather deal with my supplier. Inevitably you will have a warranty issue, and I would much rather do business with my regular supplier on that.

We buy some things direct, and warranties usually require we get billed for the replacement until the defective unit is returned (which requires you to package and ship), and then inevitably we have to chase them down for a credit. Also it always seems to take too long to get a replacement. You're just a small fish in a large corporation's giant sea.

With your supplier, at least in my case, I call them and they'll deliver a replacement, and I'll return them the defective fixture after we do the swap, no matter the manufacturer.

I guess it depends on how you define words like expensive, cheap, bulk, fair. And it depends on what you're looking for in a trim. For example,

You can get a 3-pack of Ecosmart trims for $30 at Home Depot. Ten bucks each ain't bad. But I think you get only two options - soft white or daylight. I haven't used them because they just aren't what I'm looking for.

Compare to a cheap incandescent trim and bulb at same place and you'll find it's pretty close.

But what about bulk? That's going to depend on your definition. Bulk to me sounds like somewhere in the range of 400-600 pcs or more.

I usually have 150-200 on hand and I don't consider that bulk. But I also don't use the same trim everywhere, so I don't buy all those at once. I take into account various parameters of the job (ceiling height especially) and select what I know will be best. When I find a good deal I buy several dozen and add to my stock.

Generally speaking, I pay $8-10 each, with no tax plus free shipping. But I'm not married to that price point. Today I installed some 19 watt trims which cost substantially more. But I also charged more for them.

the Sylvania trims retrofits are what I use, I've found them to work nicely and I think only one defective of about 500 or so that I've put in so far.
My state offers a rebate upon purchase of LEDs. These will cost me 4.99 each.

very nice. and btw it is the 6" Halo LT56 trim that has an EGC - none of the photos on the 'net show it. Have a stubby Phillips at the ready and be prepared to curse a lot for having to hook it up.
