Not really an NEC question, but since there is no light bulb section ...

Some of you may remember I changed out most of my light bulbs over the last few years to CFL.

The regular style bulbs have done well but I have not had good life out of any of the brands of CFL spot lights I have tried.

I happened to run across some LED spot lights on ebay by accident so I bought one. It screws into a regular light fixture. It is about the size of the small halogen spot lights. It puts out a nice bluish light that is surprisingly pleasing to the eye. I much prefer it to the CFL light.

It doesn't put out quite as much light as I wanted, so I ordered some bigger ones. The bigger ones were 4 for $100 delivered. The little one was $5 delivered.

Who makes them? I have been wanting to try some LED for outdoor floods. I have had trouble with some CFLs not wanting to start outside during the winter months. The life of the CFL outdoor floods is less than impressive.

I have had good results with CFLs indoors, recessed included. I have had to bend the brackets on some of the cans to keep the bracket from pressing on the glass covering the tube. Some of the glass covering the tubes burst several days after installation before I realized it would be a problem.

Which brand of cans do you use? Are the cans listed for CFL'S?
They were the cans installed in my house when I bought it or when the nathroom was remodeled.

The cans don't state incandescent only on the label. Just has a wattage figure that the CFLs are well below.

Incidentally, the bulb I got is not even warm to the touch after being on for several hours.

For some reason I seem to recall a thread that got into CFL's and recessed cans and their listings. Maybe someone who is more savy on the subject will come forward.

Don't know what the brand is.

These are the large spots I bought.

This is the small one.

Neither one says they are outdoor rated.

This one says it is rated for outdoor.

If you are interested you could always just email the seller and ask.

Bob, thanks.

Also, the cans I was referring to were existing. Never thought about them being listed for CFL. I thought the whole idea is that the CFLs were supposed to be replacements for incandescents.

Does anyone know if any of the LED lamps will replace Grow Lite lamps?

I've been substituding the old warm white next to a cool white Flourscent lamps for years in place of those expensive Grow Lite Lamps.

Looking for ways to save when I start my vegtable plants...
