hello everyone,

i was wondering if anyone is familiar with this schools code review course and has had a postive or negative experience with them. thanks in advance

I took my first class with Leo about 20 years ago when he still worked for another school.

I have taken my last three or four code updates with Leo at his own school.

I feel it is well worth the money. :smile:

Leo is a no-nonsense, lets use commonsense type of guy.

He will be quick to remind you "It's a real world out there" while pointing outside his classroom.
 
thanks iwire. word is that the son now teaches the course. i'm wondering if anything has changed? some people are saying that since PSI is now giving the exam that there no difference between LM and any other course. any thoughts. thanks
 
Leo's son is OK, the last course I took there was for my state of CT required update and his son taught that one. (CT does not accept the same update class I take for MA and RI:roll: )

The company I work for subsidizes the update classes I take but I would pay full price anyway.

When I tool my J-mans prep course back in the 80s I paid full price and had to take the "T" to get into Boston three nights a week to sit in a sweltering hot classroom. I would do it again if I had to.:)

The state has mandated the Course Syllabus. A certain group of topics must be covered in Journeyman A and another group covered in Journeyman B or 1+2 whatever they are calling it now. If you go to the states website the info is there(Board of Electricians). I have a helper that was very dissatisfied with the Peterson school this year as his instructor due to "scheduling" conflicts has decided to find alternate education. He told me the Instructor was there for 2 months and then off for Dec and Jan and the new Instructor basically gave them tests in class, with no instruction. Pretty poor, I had a good experience there so that's where i sent him. Go figure.

I and my partner recommend past students daily to the Martin School for license prep, masters programs, and 600 courses as well as the other courses they offer. I am not aware of a single attendee that has been disappointed. Leo and his son are beyond reproach professional and run a great program. They are friends of the industry.
 
I took a class in Conn. this past weekend. I do not need the class, but I am always looking to see what others are doing and learn in the process.

The highlight of the class was a film presentation of which we were supposed to see only part 1. The instructor promptly fell asleep and part 2 was rolling when he woke up. Another memorable part was his reading skills... his favorite phrase..BLAH< BLAH< BLAH<BLAH<BLAH, mixed with foul language.

So much for continuing ed.

P.S. I carry my camera everywhere I go. I got some good pictures of the instructor sleeping. After some thinking, I plan on forwarding them to his boss.

40 years in the trade never heard a bad thing about Leo and his love for this trade and its code, since his son has taken over I heard the same dedicated to this trade as is his dad. Well worth the (greek salad)$$$$$ and the time if you have to travel.:D

What was the good expierance, I keep hearing bad things about them.

Felt like I got my $$$ worth from the instructor. Passed my Test first time, so I got what I needed out of it. Then again it took 8 months for the school to send in my update course info properly. Got the state involved after i was denied a permit for lapsed continuing education! It was fixed the next day, wonder how that happened.

I also know Leo and his son fairly well. I've taken the mandatory reviews from them. Leo also speaks at some of the monthly inspectors meetings. I highly recommend that all my guys go there.
 
I don't know much about the Peterson School. I do know that one of my guys went throught their journeyman 1 program the year before last. Then his instructor for the journeyman 2 class was one of his classmates from the J1 class. (For anyone who isn't aware, MA changed the requirements for those entering the trade after a certain date to have double the classroom hours. This instructor only needed the J1 class)

Now I'm not saying this instructor was not qualified since I have no firsthand knowledge of him. But if I were a student, I'd prefer to have someone with a little more experience. If not in teaching, than in the trade. I posted on this subject about a year or so ago.
