Here is a "paddle fan" that a buddy of mine took a picture of. It was in the mens room.

I've seen them before and always wondered how much they were. Got any idea on what one of those costs?

When I asked last year I was told Ballpark 6k for a 8' diameter unit. Best part, they move VERY slowly so you don't get all that pesky breeze, just genuine airflow.

We install the 24ft. Powerfoil ones in this health club franchise we do all over the state. $6k for the little guy sounds quite high, I'll take a look at what we pay for the 24 footer tomorrow, and sure they do move slowly on 1 but believe me if you turn that control all the way up to 10 and it moves SCARY fast, it sounds like a helicopter hahahaa. Oh and I forgot to mention they are less complicated to install than a ornate ceiling fan as long as you have 2 guys and a scissor lift that is.

Same here. But I always keep the balancing kit. A week from now, someone else is going to call me and ask me to balance their fan. Or I'll install a wobbly fan that didn't come with a kit.
If you ever need one give me a call. I've got dozens of them!!

Have a big a** price. I just quoted a job where we proposed to install 4 12' fans with controller, my price for these fans was around $24,000. I thought the supply house added an extra zero or something. Needless to say the customer found something cheaper, swamp cooler type fans that just plug in to a regular 120V receptacle for about $1200 a piece.

Do any of you have experience with installing the Westinghouse Sidemount Plus Fan Box?

You can remove the box from the bracket and screw the bracket to the joist through the hole when you dont have attic access... But I imagine a long extension bit for your drill would help. Can you get the bracket secured really well when driving the screws at an angle?

Yes, I've used them, yes, I mounted the bracket with the supplied screws, and yes, they hold well. I do pre-drill the screw holes, which you're supposed to do in all wood (except live wood, that is.) I also use magnetic hex drivers to drive the screws.

I like how they show you drilling the pilot holes for the screws. I don't think that drill will fit through a 4" hole in the ceiling.
