I just heard that theres a new state law that the inspectors can require you to have your photo ID and license worn on the outside so they can easily see that youre legal.

this is because of the underground economy, and helping contractors compete. Any other areas doing this??

Where are you ? What State?
May be it's just a local thing. I know lot's of corporations all ready require their maintnance crew to where them.

Florida doesn't have a journey man system. Journey men are only local and not even required. The Master has the only license and he stays in the office or on his boat.

In NH, you have to have a license on the job site. You may only have one apprentice per licensee.

Clark County, Nevada requires one JW electrican on site at all times (to supervise all other JW and apprentices) and that person must display thier license (issued by the state or by ICC) on their clothing for ID by any county inspector, whenever they are on a job site. (If the license holder is there, we accept that license too :D) This is going into effect in a few weeks and will include plumbers and fitters also.

Yes, its for the plumbers and elevator mechanics too. Forgot to mention that.

this is not just local, its a STATE LAW now. This is in Washington STate,
I must have missed that detail when I took a WAC update class. But then, I have always had to display my license at my work place. :D Would you happen to know the WAC article number?

Yes and that's reason our wages are so low. Florida is a total joke on licenseing. The master need never even seen the job and the workers could be right out of high school. And you can even rent the master

I believe that CA law requires the license holder to be on site, but no one enforces it.

Kevin, do you work with Rick? And is Glenn Soles still there?

I?m confused; I thought the EC had to have a License not the Electrician doing the work. Or are you saying the Electrician has to have a State certification now. If it?s a union job are the IBEW union members considered certified or license to perform the work?

That varies from place to place. In many areas both the contractor and the electricians must hold a license.

No. In areas where the electrican must have a license, he must get it from the government agency that issues them. The fact the he is or is not a union member does not have effect on the requirement to have a license.

Since the OP is talking about Washington State, I can answer this question. Every person working on an electrical installation must have in his or her possession a valid license. If the person is an apprentice (or in our language, an "electrical trainee"), then that license must be in the person's possession, and the supervisor (with a Journeyman or Master license) must be on the job site. It does not matter whether a union is involved in the installation. Everyone needs a license that is issued by the State.

Pretty much the same deal here in MA, RI and CT.

Part of getting the license is agreeing to show it when asked by a person with a need to know.
