What about my rights? My right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness?

I don't need to take a driving test in any of the other 49 states (as well as Canada, I'm not sure about Mexico) if I drive there. Yet am I not as lethal (in regards to my capacity to kill others) with a 5,000-lb vehicle as I am with electricty? If I can go driving along, merrily text-messaging my buddies as I go, and take out some poor family going to the grocery store, I can also be text-messaging on the job, screw something up, and kill everyone in the building.

OK. I'm done ranting.

I have to disagree. My son moved from Florida to California and had to take the driving test.
I dont mind taking an electrical exam in another state, we keep it pretty tight here in Florida.

License in Illinois or Missouri

License in Illinois or Missouri

Is there any licensing or certification for Illinois or Missouri. I have looked to great lengths, and made many calls. I can not find any kind of licensing or certification required (or really offered) for electrical wiring in the state of Illinois. I have not quite spent as much time researchin Missouri. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

There is no licensing in IL. Anybody with a bag of tools can do electrical work. They cant pull permits, but can do electrical installations for a contractor.

Brian,

Chicago has a test and a license. There are a number of other cities and towns that have tests, but they are a minority.
Don
Chicago has a supervising electricians test. If you want to contract electrical work in Chicago you must have this license or employ one that does. This one license holder is responsible for all work performed by this contractors electricians. One license holder and an unlimited number of unlicensed electricians working under the supervising electrician.
