Licensing in other States

In New Jersey you have to have a state license which requires passing three exams totalig 7 1/2 hours. The exams have a 10 to 22% pass rate. If you fail an exam you must wait 6 months to retake the exam. And take 34 hours of CEU's each code cycle. There are also seperate licenses that allow those without an electrical contractors license to install low voltage alarm work, low voltage sprinkler systems and communication wirring.

In Wisconsin, in most municipalities, only a Master can pull a permit. They are in the process of changing things here. Right now I need my Masters (fee to state) and a license for whatever municipality I want to work in. A guy could end up having to buy dozens of licenses!! In a few years this will change to 1 license for whole state. They also are going to have a Residential Masters License wich restricts work to residential. Some of us are wondering if this is just an excuse to dummy down the masters exam as a way of grandfathering in the old electricians who have not been able to pass the test in the past. Masters license requires 24 hours CE for each code cycle.

It used to be that only electricians could install fire and burglar alarms here.
Our Masters licenses used to say "alarms" or something like that for years.
Then one year it disappeared.
We had dumbed down the test for just burglar and fire specialties.
They then turned the tables on us and now you have to have a special license to install fire and burglar alarms.
A State Certified contractor can install alarms but, a Master Electrician (ER) can not.

In NC you are suppose to be licensed.................but apparently the inspectors around here don't care to enforce the laws
