Our poco lost the feed from the TVA yesterday, everything went down. Only thing up was cell phone service. Apparently the internet is not backed up at the cell sites or at the phone company ISP.

The last power outage I recall was in 1962/63. That was at our farm in the hills. It was a corker.

Surely you jest….

Wait, seriously???
I'm sure there others who had significant interruptions. We moved house three years ago and I think there was one overnight glitch - the only observation was that my computer did a shut down and restart. At the previous house had no interruptions for the 12 years we were were there.

We get at least 2-3 outages a year, usually ice bringing trees down in the winter, or heavy rains and wind in the summer.
Yeah but if everything is underground there is not a likely chance of failure. NYC is an example. They do get brown outs but not often and they are dealing with a huge population. Almost everything is underground -- not sure about staten island

It’s going to be interesting to see how well the fiber holds up, they are running it overhead right now.

I put in solar 6 months ago, with a battery backup. Last week my internet went down, but I could still connect with my phone. Turned out power was out in the entire area but because of my solar, I was unaware of the power outage. So yeah, I could keep my food cold in the fridge, but I couldn't work (other than by phone). I know the local AT&T switchyard that's down the road from me has a backup generator because I can hear it when it comes on if I go outside, but the outage must have been wider than that. Only lasted an hour or so.

Yeah, no kickbacks like solar! LOL! Almost got to do a 14KW system last year, but the owner chickened out. Ended up burying almost 3000’ of 4/0 triplex and a pair of transformers.
