Light Conduit Requirements - water tight?

Hi,
I have a pool with water in the conduit going from the pool light to the control panel.

Could I get help finding the NEC code that defines if water can be in the conduit? I vaguely remember from my RAIL test - water tight vs. water proof.

Thanks,
Micky

Welcome to the forum.

The interior of all conduit outdoors is considered to be a wet location.

Thus, all wire outdoors must be wet-rated, in conduit or not.

Yes, water in outside conduit is acceptable since it's unavoidable.

It's a given the conduit will have water, or at least lots of moisture. That's why the NEC requires junction boxes be above the waterline, depending on the contact voltage of the light, and they type of light. Also, some JB require a potting compound be added to keep out water/moisture.

You won't find anything stating water is, or is not, allowed in the conduit. But you can infer that water will be there by what they state about the junction boxes minimum height, potting compound to keep the water out, etc.
