Does anyone know of any code requirements for lights in operating rooms to be sealed and gasketed? Can I use a standard 2x4 lay-in fixture? Or do I need a cleanroom fixture? If a cleanroom fixture is required, what class? Or does it have to be a light specifically for an Operating room.

I guess I don't know what listing or labeling is required.

Thanks in advance:

Steve

I sepecified CD Lighting symmetrical/assymetrcial 2 x 4 fixtures in the local Medical examiners office a couple of years ago. The fixtures were rated for operating room and didn't have any issues.
The results were simply awesome. Arrange them 2 on each side of the table and one at the head of the table. Each fixture uses 6 lamps. after the installation you could not create a shadow on the table anywhere!!!! 150-200 footcandles of lighting also. Then they could use the spot to highlight specific areas that they wanted to. I used the IES recommendations for surgical suites when I designed it and that alone was worth the price of the book.

Good luck, hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies. Lithonia has 2 different cleanroom troffers, and I am wondering if they would be suitable.

The Lithonia SRT is rated for ISO7 (Class 10,000) and ISO 8 (Class 100,000) while the SRH is ISO5 (Class 100) and ISO 6 (Class 1000).
