Light Poles Grounding

The code is quite clear about the role of grounding electrodes in general, of which a ground rod is just one. Protecting light poles from direct lightning strikes is not on the list.

Nobody ever said a ground rod would "protect" a pole light from a lightning strike.

So why do you keep claiming it will help in the event of a lightning strike?

I said if anything it might help in getting the surge it in the dirt a little earlier.

I didn't say it was going to protect the pole or keep it from being destroyed by a direct lightning strike.

This post has generated discussion…and lots of opinions, and has evolved into a ground up or ground down issue.
To the OP, Mike Holt has videos on this subject. If required install a ground rod, and what is required is an EGC.
