Has anyone seen a residential fixture that requires a wire that wraps a beam through the ceiling box. It has a 1/4" pipe that leaves the ceiling into the attic. It attaches to the fixture itself. I've never done one of these. My fixture is about 100lbs Can anyone give me any tips or pointers as to how to do this installation? Thanks.

Re: Light support w/ cable wrapping structural member

Most fixtures above 70# have a fall preventer cable that can be just lag bolted with a flat washer into the truss above the box. Many large and commercial paddle fans also come with this cable. But make sure you don't leave any slack as if the fixture does fall it can break the cable.

314.27(B) requires that if a fixture weighs more than (50 lb) shall be supported independently of the outlet box unless the outlet box is listed for the weight to be supported.

I installed a Harley Davison chandelier that weighed over 150# It had a bolt that came with it to run up through the box that had to go through a made structure member.

I have found that fixtures of this weight come with mounting brackets that are not configured for a standard box.I like to run a 2x8 across trusses drill 2 -1/4 in holes and use all thread
that has fender washers and double nuts in attic and support the fixture with these
