LIght switch near whirlpool

I read some old posts about this, but would like some clarification.

The design of a bathroom has made it practically impossible to have the switches that operate the overhead lights located anywhere other than near the whirlpool tub. The bath has a separate shower and thus the tub will not be a continous use item if that matters.

To give a little clarification, the switch box needs to go to the left side of the door opening b/c the door is a pocket door that recesses back to the right. Unfortunately the area where the switches are is the same area where the whirlpool is located. It is a deck mounted tub.

In addition to this the design calls for a small hanging light fixture over the whirlpool. What additional issues might this bring up?

Thank you in advance for your replies!

Read part VII of article 680. If your whirlpool tub meets the definition of a Hydromassage Tub, then there are no special requirements for the placing of switches and light fixtures near the unit, it is treated like a normal bathtub. 404.4 Prohibits the installation of switches in the "wet location" of a tub or shower space. If the switch may be mounted immediately adjacent to, but not directly above the tub, then it should not be a problem. If the switch will be directly over the tub, then someone will need to detrmine if this is a wet location.
410.4(D) restricts the installation of a "chain, cable, or cord suspended luminaire" within an area 3' horizontally and 8' vertically of the bathtub rim.

I am putting a temporary hold on this thread. I am taking this action because I cannot tell from the member's profile whether he is employed in the electrical industry. The thread appears to me to be an attempt by a Do It Yourself person to obtain "how-to" information.

The Forum?s rules do not permitted us to provide ?how-to? assistance to a person who is not an electrician, but who appears to be planning to do electrical installation work at home.

I invite the Original Poster to send me a Private Message (use the "PM" button below), to explain the circumstances, and to let me know if I have misjudged the situation. If I have, I will reopen the thread, and post an apology for the delay and inconvenience.
