Lighted-toggle switches

I would like to propose a change to the next NEC that all bathroom and bedroom lighting fixtures must be controlled by a switch with a lighted toggle. In fact, they should require all bedrooms to have a permanently mounted fixture, not just a switched wall outlet (switched wall outlets still OK in living rooms). These would be for safety, so people would not walk into a dark room and not be able to easily turn on a light. Also, many people don't necessarily put lamps where the switched outlet is, so this can potentially pose a safety hazard.
 
You better have documentation for this change. I don't believe it will fly.

The Nec doesn't even require a switch in the same room. I can have a switch at the front door to control the lights in my bedroom. Not smart but legal.
 
IF your going to tell them what they need why not tell them what to do...

Be it the same thing, the NEC is not a design spec.

If you put a light switch no farther than than your for-arm, (your elbow) what do you need?

Frankly it sounds more like an ADA requirement, J M H O

dennis how did you get frisbeedogs pic scrolling on your avatar? Or better yet why?
 
You would then also need to submit a proposal that the switches be by the door for the room they serve.
Bedrooms would require 3-ways...1 by the door, 1 by the bed....4-ways if 2 beds in the room ~ someone might stub thier toe walking to the doorway in the dark.

When i sleep i dont want to see that switch lighted up.Now if it comes with another switch to kill that light it will be ok.Really ,we have enough codes now.You could run an add to change them for people that want them.

How did people survive for all those centuries before electricity? :confused: :roll:
 
Lighted switches annoy me. They seem amature and cheap in a residential setting, imo. One more thing to fail, that will never get fixed when it does. It would also contribute in a huge way to phantom power drain- my power bills are large enough thanks.

the sad part is the N.E.C is filled with exception this and exception that which is a complete joke , refer to here then there .(no logic) here .......... who ever started this had his head buried in the sand .....dis -organized for sure ....you had and i qoute had to have an 911 exception (no real reason ,come on k.i.s.s. keep it simple, not one big pain in the but????????like it is ????????? NO LIGHTED LIGHT SWITCHS.HUH ?????

???

I have switches (dimmers even) at both sides of my bed and the door coming in to bedroom, and one at the bathroom as well
