I am not very familiar with wireless and app controlled lighting for residential and your help is appreciated.

Need to control lighting via an app and a switch from the house. The app will be used to control the lights from the back yard, about 200' away.

What can I use that is reliable?

There's hundreds. Leviton Smart Switch is the one I settled on to control my porch lights. Pick a major manufacturer because you want something that will be around for the long haul and updated.

I've used several different brands but my favorite is Kasa by TP-Link. Great app and simple installation (and connects easily to the home WiFi). I used one of the no-name brands from Amazon and the two that I purchased failed within 3 weeks. One of the Kasa switches I've been using for over two years.

Thats the most important aspect in my opinion. Trying to fix or get support on some defunct product line is one of the most frustrating aspects of our industry.

I've had mixed results with Leviton. Lutron has been rock solid, in my experience, but the distance in this case may pose an issue.

The switch just has to be within range of the Bridge. There is no distance limitation for the app. As long as the phone/tablet with the app has WiFi or cell service your good.
