Lighting

I am designing a lighting system for an indoor pool and spa. It has been my experience that fixtures only have a small life in these areas.Does anyone have sucess stories or advice ????

I just did a pool lighting design a few months ago. Try to specify gasketed fixtures that are rated for use in a natatorium. If the fixture's cutsheet doesn't mention it then contact the local lighting rep and ask them for more information. Use PVC for exposed conduits.

Indirect light is more comfortable to occupants. If you use this then make sure the ceiling is white or your energy cost will go up trying to get the light levels you want. If there's upper seating or viewing then avoid blinding them with the uplights. Typical systems use HID lamps for the primary light source with suplimental fluorescent for emergency.

They were a bit of a pain to install but they have not given us any trouble either.

If by chance you are using basic lay in troffers, I would select the alumnium door frame option instead of steel.

Elliptipar. Can be wall mounted or stem mounted. A couple of pics. There are a few manufacturers with this style.

And a variation of this called the Lightruss.

I've also seen some end-lit tube lighting but that is expensive.

Like Mr. Bill was saying look for fully gasketed fixtures. You may even be able to get a special coating applied to the fixture depending on manufacturer.
