lightning protection for a store

My customer would like for me to provide lightning protection for his store. He thinks the power company had a device that mounts near the meter, but it doesn't offer that any more. The store has a 200 amp 240/120 v panel and a 208 v 3 phase panel. Any recommendations ? Thank you.

Best lightning protection I know of for resi and small commercial is good insurance, documentation, and pictures.

LPS for small stuff is kinda worthless IMO. A proper system is generally not worth the cost and I have little faith in any gizmo that POCO or anyone else sells is worth it.

Two services to a store. Somewhat uncommon depending.

Thank you, I'm pretty sure there is only one meter. But for sure there is a 240/120 v 200 amp panel and a 208 v 3 phase 150 amp panel inside. How is that done?

You cannot. With a high leg Delta, you could have a 120/240 single phase panel and a 240V or 240/120V three phase panel, but either you have two services or a tranny somewhere.

A 240/120V panel is a high three phase panel with 208V to neutral on B phase.

A voltmeter and knowledge of electrical circuit theory will allow you to figure out what kind of system you have.

The insurance idea sounds good.

Can you provide effective isolation from lighting strikes, possibly. Is it worth the effort maybe not.

Can an MOV across the incoming line be of any value? Possibly. To some extent the bigger the better. But in addition there should MOVs at critical equipment.

It could be that the 240/120V panel actually has two phases of the 208 and the neutral wired to it. 120V loads won't notice the difference. Check your line to line voltage.
