Lightning Protection

I have been asked to provide lightning protection for a PV system. Is there a kit avalable or some information on the web access ?

I would hire a qualified company to deal with this. Most EC's are not trained in lightning protection so it is best to let those who are qualified do the job.

I agree, I wired a church, and they wanted me to run the lightning protection from the steeple, I told them no, too much liability. (Especially for a free job!)

I think it kind of depends on what they mean by 'lightning protection'. If they mean, 'catch all lightning strikes and direct them safely to ground', that is a big deal and a job for a specialist. If they mean 'put something in parallel with the AC combiner to protect just the inverters', that's what Midnite Solar's products (and other ones like them) are allegedly for.

No argument. I assumed from the way the OP phrased his question that he was talking about lightning/surge protection for the inverter. IMO the Midnite Solar product is much better at that than the other type, which is basically two or three contacts separated by a half inch or so in a container of sand.
