Installed lightolier high hats in my house 18 yrs ago. last night i was in the hall and heard from my daughters room that sound mmmmmm like when a transformer or motor burns. house lights dimmed, breaker didn't trip, mmmmmm about 1.5 to 2 seconds saw light smoke came out of the high hat trim. light stayed on. checked it out. thermal protection had a hole blown out of it. light was still on. If I wasn't around I would not have heard the sound or saw the smoke and would have never known. Great , I've installed too many of these fixtures to speak of... I wander how many others may have experienced this type of melt down and have gone unnoticed. rich
