Hi everyone,
A customer wants to install low voltage landscaping lights around a fountain. Equipment is all UL1838 listed.
NEC 411 says I can't put anything nearer tan 10 ft of a Pool, SPA and Fountain unless allowed by NEC 680.
NEC 680-I doesn't says anything about lighting.
NEC 680-II is about pools, and is very detailed on what can/can't be done near a pool, how closer could I get with a lighting installation, and whatever.
NEC 680-V is about fountains, and only talks about submersible lights inside the fountain. Does not says anything about lights outside. I didn't found any text telling that I can?t do it, nor any text that I can.
Also, 680-V only states that submersible lights shall have GFCI, be less than 150 V, and be installed in chapter 3 raceways, all of which I would do.
Given the above conditions, I am tempted to believe that I can do it. (Sometimes NEC is SO terrible confusing!!!
)
Finally, tried searching the UL white book and found only references to submersible lights for fountains, and nothing about lights outside the fountain.
So what do you all think, can I or can I not install Low Voltage landscape lamps less than 10 ft of a Fountain? What would be your NEC interpretation on the subject? Has anyone had an AHJ explain 680-V in simple terms?
Are there UL or other standards that apply to this installation?
Alberto
